Saturday, April 6 - Sunday, April 7
7:30am 4/6 - 1:00pm 4/7
Have you ever wanted to surf, but just don’t know how? Or maybe you’re new to San Diego and want to explore a new area to catch a sweet swell. Taking a small group of students, this group will go to South Carlsbad Beach to learn how to surf for the first time, or learn where the best breaks on the beach are. Carlsbad is one of the oldest, classic surf towns in the San Diego area and offers a different feel than more local "hippie" beaches like OB. We'll be camping right by the beach, at the ocean all weekend!
About the Trip & Itinerary
Saturday: After meeting in the ARC at 7:30am for a pancake breakfast, we'll pile into the vans, drive up to Carlsbad, and head to the beach for instruction on the basics of surfing. After spending a few hours catching waves, a hearty lunch is definitely in order. The afternoon plan is up to the group! Participants can choose to spend more time “shredding the gnar”, relaxing on the beach, or playing games. Then, we'll make some dinner, have a bonfire, and rest after a long day.
Sunday: Another early rise and breakfast, we'll hit the waves one last time before heading back to Point Loma. Anticipate being back around 1pm.
Price >> $50.00
This trip is as physically demanding as participants choose to make it! For beginners, paddling in the water for long periods of time can be tiring! Feel free to take as many breaks as needed. Some people choose to surf for the entire time, others give it a try and find that they enjoy spending time simply playing in the waves instead.

Safety & Risk Management
The guides from the Outdoor Leadership program leading this excursion are seasoned surfers who can read the waves, tides, and currents on the shores of Carlsbad. Also, San Diego lifeguards will be staffed on the beach during this time and will be notified of the skill level of the participants so that they are aware and watching out for the group.
