This Intro to Rock Climbing is all about learning how to belay, move, and coach movement on the rock.  This course will expose you to several different climbing environments to begin or deepen your climbing skills.  We'll meet on campus to learn basic knots and climbing skills then we will go to a local climbing gym to gain/ improve personal climbing skills. The following day we will head out to Mission Gorge to learn skills needed to climb at the crag. There will be a pre-trip meeting prior to this trip.

Tentative itinerary:

Friday 6pm - 9pm: Meet in the ARC for rock climbing and belaying basics.

Saturday 8am - 6pm: Meet in the ARC. We will have a quick refresher of what we learned on Friday and then head over to a local climbing gym for the first half of the day. The second half of the day will be spent learning how to set up climbs and outdoor climbing basics in Mission Gorge. 

Packing List

  • Notebook and pen

  • Clothing appropriate for moving, sweating, sitting on the ground, and forecasted weather.

  • Sunglasses, water bottle, sunscreen

  • Personal snacks

  • Personal climbing gear (shoes and harness are provided)
